Being healthy and taking care of yourself isn’t just about the food you consume or the type of exercise you do. Taking care of your skin is also really important, and something that I myself am trying to take better care of. I have spent a far bit of money on skin care products and body scrubs in the past, and the other day I thought it was about time I try to make my own body scrub. The best part about making them yourself is that you know exactly what ingredients you are putting on your body, and you know that there are no nasty chemicals going onto your skin.
I decided for my first attempt at a body scrub I would try a coffee based one, mainly because I pretty much already had everything that I needed to make it, and couldn’t really be bothered to source heaps of other ingredients that I didn’t have.
I was so surprised how amazing this scrub left my skin feeling, the coffee grinds and sugar helped exfoliate and remove any dead skin, while the coconut oil left my skin feeling super soft and smooth. I immediately knew I wanted to share it with you guys!
Here is how I made it 🙂
Coffee Body Scrub
- 1 cup of coffee grinds
- 1/2 cup of coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of raw coconut sugar*
* the coconut sugar isn’t an essential, I decided to add it because I already had it at home and wanted a bit more exfoliation. You could also add raw sugar or brown sugar as a substitute.
Pour coffee grinds and sugar into a mixing bowl (I used a mortar and pestle). Slowly add in the coconut oil, you want to add the oil in slowly so the mixture doesn’t become too runny. If this does happen, just add in a little more coffee grinds until you get the texture that you want. I wanted it thick enough so I could pick it up with my hands without it running. Once all of the ingredients are mixed well store the scrub in a small jar or container, I used a small mason jar.
Take a small amount of the body scrub and gently rub onto wet skin in a circular motion. You really don’t need a huge amount, which means you’ll get quite a few uses out of the product. Rinse off well with water.
I’m sorry to anyone who doesn’t like the smell of coffee, obviously the scrub has a strong coffee aroma to it which I personally love, but I know not everyone is a coffee fan. If anyone wants me to experiment with any other flavour or scent, I’m happy to test them out. Leave a comment below with any other flavours you would like to see.
